The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) scheme was launched in 2003 with the aim of becoming the card scheme for the plant industry. Replacing the CTA scheme, CPCS is now the main standard for plant operators, proving that they have the necessary qualifications and experience, and have passed the Health and Safety Test to operate plant safely.

The scheme is managed by a board of employers and members of industry bodies such as the Construction Confederation, the Construction Plant-Hire Association (CPA) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It is also part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).

Experienced Worker 1 Day Assessment
In order to be deemed an experienced worker you must:-
• Be over 21 years of age
• Have 3 years plant experience, 2 of which must be on the category of plant being assessed
• Provide any previous certificates gained in connection with the category of plant and/or employer endorsed experience
record (Witness Statement)

Other Requirements
Candidates must also have:-
• Successfully completed the CITB Health and Safety test within the last two years. If this is not the case, we can help with the arrangements to achieve this
• 2 recent passport style photographs
• PPE
On successful completion of the assessment, candidates will receive a CPCS red card which is valid for 3 years.

Converting to Blue/Green Card
Once enough experience has been achieved and on completion of the NVQ Specialised Plant and Machinery Operations (SPMO), the
red card can be converted into a blue or green (depending on plant category) CPCS card. This is valid for 5 years. In order to
commence an NVQ SPMO, please contact us for further details.

Plant and Site Requirements
There are strict guidelines laid down by CITB which must be adhered to for an assessment to take place. Through the network of EECTG members, plant and site requirements can usually be met. Prices are kept low by ‘teaming up’ with other EECTG candidates, as the assessor’s fee is shared and the plant and site can be gained at reduced or no cost.

CPCS Categories
The vast majority of CPCS categories are available for assessment through us. All our assessors are fully CPCS accredited and can carry out upto 4 assessment in any one day.
